Ex Aylestone School

Annabel left school aged 16 with 9 GCSEs grade A-C and went on to Hereford Sixth Form College but felt the environment was not for her. She’d always been interested in Engineering and when an apprenticeship opportunity arose within Sun Valley she applied and was successful.

Annabel has excelled during her apprenticeship, achieving a National Certificate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with the double grade distinction merit and is now working towards NVQ level 3 and an HNC in Electrical Engineering. She is employed as an Apprentice Maintenance Engineer and says “the style of learning suits me, it encourages self-discipline and responsibility for your own career. It’s up to me how much I achieve and what I make of the opportunities that are there”.

Ex Pershore High School and Sixth Form

Duane achieved 7 GCSEs and 2 A levels in Psychology and Business Studies. He joined Parkwood Leisure as a Commerce Apprentice after attending WGTA’s Open Evenings.

He had the foresight to realise that long-term goals were essential to success and decided to start a career accountancy.

He has since achieved AAT2 by attending evening classes at Kidderminster College and is now working towards AAT3. Feedback from his supervisors has been excellent – “very motivated and always looking to learn more” and “has made a massive impact with his work and attitude”.

Duane, who was awarded Commerce Trainee of the Year at WGTA’s Awards Evening, has recently been promoted to Revenues Assistant, a position which he finds challenging and rewarding.

Ex Herefordshire Sixth Form College

Zoe completed her A levels at Hereford Sixth Form College and chose the NVQ route over a University education to pursue a career in the Business world.

She joined our Commerce Apprenticeship scheme where she completed NVQs in Business Admin and Accounting. She is now Payroll Manager at HFT Forklifts and continues to use HGTA to train staff at HFT.

Zoe says “My career is still progressing and I am currently completing an NVQ level 4 in Management through HGTA. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone wanting to get ahead in the Business world as HGTA has played a huge part in my career.”

Ben TaylorPicture of Ben

Ex Blessed Edward School

Ben started his engineering career with a full-time College course but, following high grades in his first year, he was recommended to local manufacturing company Southco, where he gained an apprenticeship through WGTA with day-release at College.

He became competent in all aspects of the toolroom, including working on CNC, manual machinery and CAD software and worked hard to meet the high level of competence required to achieve the academic and practical skills to become a qualified Toolmaker.

He achieved his National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, alongside an NVQ level 3. As part of his personal development, Southco is now sponsoring him to do a Higher National Certificate.

Ex Pershore High School

Joined the team of design engineers at Allen Gears after his apprenticeship, in which he compacted 4 years of training into 3 and achieved a Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering and a NVQ 3 Technical Services. He is now sponsored by the company to attend the University of Birmingham one day a week.

Nick was one of 5 engineers from the company who successfully tackled the combined might of 3 of Yorkshire’s most challenging mountains – within just 12 hours. Their success brings them honorary Three Peaks Membership.

Melanie MorganPicture of Melanie

Ex Fairfield High School

Left school with 7 GCSEs. She then studied and completed 3 A levels at Hereford Sixth Form College.

She joined the apprenticeship programme and gained a placement at Environmental Management Services and completed a level 2 qualification in Business and Administration in 8 months.

Her personal development continues as she embarks on the Foundation level on the accountancy program (AAT2).

Melanie has been a model apprentice and was awarded the trophy for “Commitment to training” at our Annual Awards Ceremony.

Thomas WhistancePicture of Thomas

Ex Queen Elizabeth High School

Tom left school with 8 GCSEs grades A-C. On completion of his 4 year apprenticeship he had achieved a Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering and an NVQ level 3 in Systems Maintenance.

He was the winner of the Best Senior Craft Apprentice at HGTA’s Awards Evening. His commendation said that he had proved himself time again in a very busy, demanding and fast paced environment and quickly became a very dependable member of a small maintenance crew which was often working under a great deal of pressure.

He is employed by Triplex Components as a Maintenance Engineer.

Ex John Kyrle High School

After leaving school with 9 GCSEs grades A-C, Jason embarked on a Business and Administration Apprenticeship with Special Metals Wiggin.

In the first year of his apprenticeship, not only did he work full time, but he managed to complete his NVQ level 2, technical certificate and OCR typing qualifications within 8 months. Jason is hoping to complete his Higher National Certificate in Business before the end of his second year, along with an NVQ level 3 in Business and Administration.

Gareth JonesPicture of Gareth

Ex Whitecross High School

Gareth left school with 9 GCSEs and joined HGTA as a Commerce apprentice and was subsequently employed by Hereford Industrial. During his apprenticeship he completed an NVQ level 2 in Warehousing and an NVQ level 3 in Customer Service.

Gareth enjoys his work and has recently been promoted to Warehouse Supervisor, responsible for goods inwards/outwards.
